Objectives

The primary objectives of the Fisheries Department are to promote sustainable development of the fisheries sector and to enhance the socio-economic well-being of fishers and fish farmers across India.

The key objectives of the Department include:

  • To increase fish production and productivity through scientific and sustainable practices.
  • To promote responsible management and conservation of marine and inland fisheries resources.
  • To support fishers and fish farmers through welfare schemes, financial assistance, and capacity building.
  • To develop and strengthen fisheries infrastructure, including harbours, landing centers, hatcheries, and cold chain facilities.
  • To encourage adoption of modern technology, innovation, and best practices in the fisheries sector.
  • To ensure transparency, efficiency, and inclusiveness in the implementation of fisheries-related policies and programs.
